Happy New Year!
Lancaster Elementary, the new 2nd – 5th grade school being built here in Madisonville, is on schedule, according to Trey Folse,
Assistant Superintendent of Schools here in St. Tammany Parish. I sat down with him in his office recently to thank him,
Superintendent Gail Sloan and the entire School Board for building the sorely-needed new school and for their help ensuring
Madisonville Elementary remains the strong school we all love. We also discussed recent land acquisitions in our area, including
land north of Hwy 190. Mr. Folse says, because of its size, the land would be for an elementary school, and that it simply is a
great investment for the future.
We also discussed the school board’s future plans for Madisonville. During the planning process for Lancaster Elementary, I was
told that – given the growth in our area – there was a strong probability that another school would be built for our community. In
subsequent meetings with school board representatives, I was told that school could be a junior high or high school, but that a
high school might be cost-prohibitive. Given that information, I’ve been talking to many of you, asking what you’d like to see in
terms of a new school. Most of you have told me a high school is most needed. But I’d like to ask you again: what kind of school
do you feel is most needed for the Madisonville area? A high school? Another junior high or elementary school? Or do we have all
we need?
Now that the kids are back in school,
there are lots of events coming up. Dads’
Science Nights are coming up January 26 & 28.
Please join us for MES Day with the Hornets January 18 (check the school website for more information). Before you know it,
February will be here; our Spring Fundraiser will kick-off; and Mardi Gras will return. And, hopefully, we’ll all be celebrating a
Black-and-Gold Super Bowl!
Please feel free to contact me if you have questions or concerns. My contact information is always here in the newsletter or on
our website www.madisonvillelementary.stpsb.org/pta). See you around school!
Wishing you a new year filled with peace and joy…
